Stanley Family Genealogy

Project Overview

This project began several years ago after Frances Coakley of the University of Sussex published her Manx pages containing the intriguing history about the Stanley family (these pages will be moved to www.manxnotebook.com) which raised my curiosity about my Stanley ancestors.

From Wirral parish records, census records, monumental inscriptions, and ancient wills held by Cheshire and Chester Archives and Local Studies Service, my Stanley ancestors trace back to Henry Stanley of Storeton (deceased 1599).

Tracing Henry's family origins, and achieve reasonable proof of ancestry, involved gathering facts from ancient and medieval manuscripts (wills, court records, land records etc) held by the Public Record Office, John Rylands Library, the British Library, Record Offices, Record Society publications, and medieval pedigrees based on visitations in the mid 1500s.

Ancestral conclusions are presented in these pages.

When time permits these pages will be updated, and family groups not included in "The House of Stanley from the 12th Century" by Peter Stanley will be added.

Note - Anyone researching their Stanley ancestry should validate the facts presented in these pages. I make mistakes, and deciphering hand written manuscripts can be difficult, many are in Latin.
