Sir John Stanley divorced his wife, Lady Margaret, and entered Westminster as monk. Lady Margaret subsequently married Sir Urian Brereton, and Sir John Stanley's estates passed to him. John must know who should be his heir!! His estates were divided between his two daughters. Margaret, the eldest, who married Sir Thomas Stanley, second son of Edward the Earl of Derby. The other daughter, Dorothy, married Sir John Manners. On the death of Lady Margaret in 1596, the manors of Marple and Wybersley came into the possession of her eldest son, Sir Edward Stanley of Tonge. Sir Edward having no male heirs sold the manors in 1606.
